This week marks the anniversary of the Battle of Prestonpans.
During their retreat from Coltbridge just outside Edinburgh before the battle, the redcoat dragoons thought it was safe to stop at North Berwick for a quick snack.
Just as they were about to get stuck into the mutton and pints of beer, the redcoats heard sombody shouting that Highlanders were coming. Jumping on their horses they rode out of the town at top speed.
This week’s photie shows the Glasgow University gunners who took part in the battle last year.
If you don’t fancy watching the battle why not take a trip to the Royal Observatory on the Blackford Hill which is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday. The City Observatory on the Calton Hill is also open on Saturday. Admission free check out: www.roe.ac.uk
