Robert Louis Stevenson
in North Berwick

1oclockgun.org

The One o’ Clock Gun & Time Ball Association has undertaken to collect the funds to erect a statue of Robert Louis Stevenson in North Berwick. The statue will portray the world famous author as a young boy with his dog. Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have designed his map of Treasure Island on the island of Fidra in the Firth of Forth.

As the Stevenson family travelled from Edinburgh to North Berwick during the summer in the early 1860’s, it’s more than likely that young Louis would have heard the One o’ Clock Gun firing, weather conditions permitting. In his book ‘Picturesque Notes’, the author recorded that the One o’ Clock Gun could be heard in the town.

The Association has charitable funding status SCO 41786 and has the support of North Berwick Community Council and Visit East Lothian.

Donations would be gratefully received
(cheques and postal orders should be made out to the One o' Clock Gun & Time Ball Association)
