Sam Bough

Saturday 19th November marks the anniversary of the death of the landscape artist Sam Bough who lived in Morningside, Edinburgh.

Sam came down  to North Berwick quite a lot as he was friendly with Robert Louis Stevenson. Sam loved to paint the Bass Rock and as he was a dog lover he would have seen Greyfriars Bobby.

Sam also painted the original hanging sign for his local pub the ‘Volunteer Arms’ which stands at the corner of Jordan Lane and Morningside Road.

When he died in 1878,  Sam was buried in the Dean Cemetery, Edinburgh.
